Ethiopia-born actress Ruth Negga to shine at Oscars Academy Awards

Hollywood, February, 25, 2017 (GSN) - The  89th Academy Awards is round the corner and everyone is busy placing their bets on possible Oscars 2017 winners.

Year after year, Oscars has been called out for being a white award night wherein most white actors, themes and makers take home the black lady. However, this is likely to change this year.

Ethiopia-born actress, Ruth Negga, has been nominated for the prestigious Oscars. She is nominated in the ‘Actress in a Leading Role,’ category for her role in the 2016 movie, Loving.

Ruth’s performances in the movie, ‘Loving,’ will pitch her against four other actresses for the award. The film she played in borders on the true life story of a Virginia couple who had to live through the days when inter-racial marriages were outlawed.

She was raised by her Irish mother after her Ethiopian father died in a motor accident when she was young. Other films she has starred in are Capital Letters (2004), Isolation and Breakfast on Pluto (2005), Warcraft (2016).

Her role in Loving, has won her other nominations aside the Academy Award for Best Actress. Other nominations include the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead, Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actress, and a BAFTA Rising Star Award.
