December 17. 2015(GMN) - The over one billion Birr project will reliably address problems related to power supply in the area. Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn Wednesday inaugurated the Metu-Gambella 230 kilovolt power transmission and power reception and distribution project
The project is believed to meet power demand in Gambella and surrounding areas."The project will adequately respond to the power demands of communities in resettlement areas," Hailemariam said.
Besides meeting power supply gaps in the investment sector, the project will facilitate the socioeconomic activities at national level, he added. Ethiopian Electric Power received appreciation from the Premier for efforts to realize the project which took over five years.
Gambella State Chief Gatluak Tut said people in the state were unable to enjoy from development infrastructures.__
However, with the introduction of fair utilization of infrastructure through the Federal Constitution, the public is now getting benefits from power, road, telephone and other infrastructures, he said._
The Chief expressed conviction that the newly launched power project will alleviate the erratic power supply in the State and surrounding areas.
